Trento, 26 gennaio 2026 - Trento, 26 January 2026 – Dolomiti Energia Group takes a further step in Italy’s energy transition by signing a multi-year agreement for the management of a 25 MW – 75 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Puglia. This is one of the very first physical tolling agreements in the storage sector of the Italian market and confirms the Group’s commitment to innovation as a partner in the development of innovative energy solutions.
The agreement, signed with METLEN, a global operator in the energy and metals sector, provides for a seven-year collaboration that will enable the Group to manage the BESS and maximise its value in wholesale markets and grid services. This advanced model, already widespread across Europe, is beginning to emerge in Italy as a strategic lever for integrating renewable energy sources and stabilising the electricity system.
The new storage system, currently under construction and scheduled to enter operation in 2026, has already been awarded a Capacity Market contract with Terna and represents a key element in fostering electricity system flexibility and dispatching efficiency. Thanks to their ability to store and release energy according to grid requirements, lithium-battery BESS facilities are becoming crucial infrastructure for managing the growing variability of renewable energy generation.
“This agreement confirms Dolomiti Energia Group’s role as an innovative player in a rapidly evolving market,” says Stefano Granella, CEO of Dolomiti Energia Group. We are among the first in Italy to test contractual models that fully leverage the potential of energy storage systems, essential tools for accelerating the transition towards an increasingly renewable and stable electricity system. We do not simply build and operate plants: our commitment is to enable the energy transition by providing services, expertise and solutions that allow our partners to innovate, invest and create sustainable value. This project represents a tangible contribution to the country’s energy future, supporting Italy’s climate and decarbonisation targets.”
