Rovereto, NRRP project for the water network completed

The Dolomiti Energia Group has completed a €3.5 million project to make the network more efficient and resilient

Rovereto, 4 September 2026 – The Dolomiti Energia Group has completed the district metering and active monitoring project for Rovereto’s water network, one of the most innovative and complex projects carried out on a water supply system in Trentino in recent years. In Rovereto, the company manages a complex system of strategic importance to the region, comprising approximately 265 km of network, 4 springs, 5 wells, 14 supply reservoirs and 10 pumping and water treatment plants, ensuring continuity, quality and safety of the water service for families and businesses every day.

The initiative, funded under the NRRP, was implemented by the Dolomiti Energia Group on behalf of the Municipality of Rovereto. The investment, largely financed by the NRRP, amounts to €3.5 million, including complementary components and additional costs incurred to maximise the benefits of the project.

The project is a concrete example of how the Dolomiti Energia Group’s technical, design and management expertise has transformed the opportunity offered by NRRP funding into tangible and lasting infrastructure for the region. It contributes to creating a water supply system that is more efficient, sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change and increasingly focused on the digital management of infrastructure.

One of the most significant results is the district metering of more than 90% of the city’s network, which is now divided into 20 homogeneous and independent areas, constantly monitored and regulated through sensors and digital systems. The installation of new valve chambers, pressure-reducing valves and measurement systems distributed across the region now makes it possible to monitor the operation of the network more accurately, identify anomalies more quickly and take timely action to limit water losses. District metering enables more precise monitoring of water flows and pressure. These benefits result in reduced losses, less stress on pipes and a longer service life for the infrastructure, improving the overall efficiency of the service.

Alongside work on the network, the project has introduced significant technological innovation through the installation of more than 5,700 new-generation smart meters, covering almost the entire meter base in Rovereto.

The new digital infrastructure now enables real-time monitoring of the water supply system, improving the ability to prevent issues, plan activities and manage interventions, while making the service increasingly efficient and responsive to residents’ needs.

The project required the coordination of particularly complex design, authorisation, technological and operational activities, confirming the Dolomiti Energia Group’s ability to implement complex infrastructure projects by integrating engineering, digital and management expertise and ensuring compliance with the deadlines, objectives and quality standards required by national and European investment programmes.

Thanks to the expertise developed across the entire water service value chain, the company is able to manage every stage of the process, from the design and construction of infrastructure to its operational management, supported by advanced remote monitoring systems and an in-house analysis laboratory that ensures constant monitoring of water quality.

“This project represents much more than an infrastructure development: it is a strategic investment that strengthens the quality, efficiency and sustainability of the water service for the benefit of the community,” said Valter Moro, Director of the Water Sector at the Dolomiti Energia Group. “Completing the project within the NRRP’s tight deadlines confirms the Dolomiti Energia Group’s ability to act both as an efficient operator of complex infrastructure and as a reliable partner supporting public administrations in addressing future challenges related to water resources. Today, we manage a network of almost 900 kilometres in Trentino, serving more than 82,000 users and distributing approximately 22.5 million cubic metres of water each year. This result is made possible by an established wealth of professional and technical expertise capable of managing the entire water cycle.”
